Easylift is a family owned-business success story spanning three generations. Jeff Hatswell our Founder, established the business in 1984, from Cairns and the success of Easylift eventually expanded into Townsville and Rockhampton. Our Chief Executive, Adam Hatswell oversees the running of the company and is based in our Rockhampton office. With the construction sector being the third largest employer across Queensland, there is an overwhelming demand for Easylift products and services.
Prior to establishing Easylift in 1984, Jeff was in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) as a member of the military who worked in armoury and maintained and repaired small arms and weapons systems, with some duties resembling repairs for electrical fittings.
Jeff and Adam have grown the business to now be one of the largest suppliers of garage doors, motorised gates and shutters in the region.
Being a family-owned business, Adam helped his father, Jeff, on weekends and school holidays from the age of 12 with roller door and tilt door installations. After completing his electrical trade in the early 1990s, Adam started officially working with Easylift. Adam was responsible for setting up and running Cairns Automatic Gates. In 2001 Adam was promoted to General Manager to oversee the three divisions in Cairns, becoming the CEO in 2013 and Director in 2018. In 2008 Adam relocated to Rockhampton with his family and established the Central Queensland branch, where Adam still resides today.

"Like most challenges in businesses these days, we struggle to find new people that want to work or are qualified in our Industry. Fortunately, the Easylift team have long term core staff and their loyalty does not go unnoticed," says Adam.
Adam is most proud of his two sons. Bryce, the oldest of two went onto university and has become a qualified lawyer, while my youngest, Riley, started working with Easylift in 2023, making Easylift a third-generation family company.
As the Group General Manager of The Easylift Group Pty Ltd, Shaun leads the team as our point of call for all new and existing commercial projects and customers.
Shaun is responsible for ensuring the quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction of the group's operations and sales, as well as managing the risk and change management processes.
By implementing best practices and policies to mitigate potential issues and adapt to the dynamic market conditions. Shaun is passionate about delivering value to our clients and growing our business. Valuing teamwork, integrity, and excellence, and creating a positive and supportive work environment for our staff and partners.
Shaun has been excited to be part of The Easylift Group for the past 12 years now and has 17 years’ experience in the garage door industry and over 28 years in the construction industry alone and continues to look forward to contributing to its ongoing success and vision.
Every day is challenging. Prioritising the challenges that we come across often is a core part of Shaun’s role. Calling on and delegating these challenges across the team ensure rapid solutions for our customers.
Everything that Shaun does in his role, contributes to why he loves being a part of the Easylift family along with the excellent support received from Jeff, Adam and Angela. Mark is the Cairns Branch Manager and liaises with our commercial clients on their garage door solutions. As a Manager at the Cairns Branch, Mark oversees our recruitment process and staff training. A valuable thing in businesses is to protect your staff, encourage and uplift the team with friendly morales.
At the end of the day, once the clients are satisfied with what we’ve achieved for your business or residence, this is what makes the dream team. Working in the garage door and automatic gates industry requires a niche set of skills as there is no trade qualification offered in the gates industry, it’s all on the job training.

Mark has extensive product knowledge having been part of the Easylift team since 1990 and has grown in this position as the company has grown in it’s over 40-year history.
We have great company values, team morale, ongoing training opportunities as a Platinum Agent for B&D in North and Central Queensland and our ability to have our team educate our customers on our products and their benefits.
Matt joined the Easylift team in our automatic gates department as our Service & Installation Manager due to his expertise in electronics and technical modules. Matt has a flair for mechanical aptitudes and physics from his Diploma of Music Industry and Technical Production. It’s with this expertise that Matt can consider any environmental factors with the installation of a range of automatic gates. Not every property and space are the same, so most of our automatic gate installations are customised to suit the specifics of a property and the areas of access.
As a qualified musical technician, Matt brings an aptitude in engineering, mechanical, information technology (IT), electronics, communications and radio repair kits. Previously working in a logistics setting within an award-winning hotel as their go to Maintenance and Engineering Technician.
Predominately spending majority of his time outside of the office, either quoting, installing or repairing any gate motors for existing automatic systems, which is why Matt always encourages clients to get their automatic gates serviced annually to avoid any costly repairs or entire replacements.
Matt predominately services the real estate, body corporate and multi residential apartment buildings, due to the added security features that come with having an automatic gate for these sectors. Matt enjoys working around the technical challenges and finding the right solutions for our Easylift customers. There is a sense of reward and recognition when the team can deliver a job well done, with a positive outcome and happy customers.
Angela has been with the Easylift team since 2004 and has enjoyed the growth of Easylift within this time. There have been many moments throughout the years where individually and as a team Easylift have kicked some major goals due to our ongoing growth and ongoing customer service. Angela enjoys the tropical winters of Far North Queensland and living in Cairns, often enjoying trips to the northern beaches with her family and walks along the Esplanade.
Sonya joined Easylift in 1994 and has also worked her way through the business and is now our expert Installations Coordinator of all projects big and small across Cairns and Far North Queensland. Like every other long term team member, Sonya has grown along with the company in the past 30 years and continues to assist our business to succeed.
Heather started working with the Easylift team at the height of COVID-19 where the world completely changed as we knew it and is a valuable team member. Bringing with her over 45 years’ experience in the administration field and over 20 years in the building industry, including trade plumbing and roofing. We lean on Heather with her over 10 years’ experience at Lysaght and Metroll, this level of experience enables Heather to be our knowledgeable Branch Manager and coordinating installations and answering customer concerns with her expert knowledge.
Understanding the challenges in the industry today is mostly the delayed deliveries dur to staffing shortages across the whole industry, but we take each day as it comes and understand the importance of constant communication within our team, our customers and our authorised suppliers. Heather was born and bred in Rockhampton and has lived in Mackay for over 15 years before settling into Townsville.
Michael is a long term team member, celebrating over 30 years working with Easylift and recently promoted to our B&D Mobile Showroom Sales Consultant. Michael has been with us for over three decades and he has learned many aspects of the overall business’ products and services.
Previous to his new position, Michael was our Service Coordinator, quoting large scale projects for commercial and residential clients. Also having worked as our installation subcontractor, Michael draws on this experience as a garage door expert. The ongoing advancements in technology makes it worthwhile to continuously evolve in the outstanding products offered by Easylift.
B & D Panel lift motors now have an optional extra Auto lock feature for added security with a manual over ride system in the event the power goes out during a cyclone. Our Cyclone rated Storm Shield Garage Doors are backed by B & D. These sectional garage doors have been re-engineered with a high-strength bracing system to protect homes in our cyclone-prone region. The Sectional doors come in a wide range of Styles and Colourbond colours. Michael enjoys the lifestyle that Far North Queensland has to offer, previously a football coach, enjoys getting away to Port Douglas, the Daintree or Cardwell with his amazing family.
Wayde has been with the Easylift team since 2022 and manages the sales for our customers, as well as scheduling new installations. Also managing the volume of our stocktake and duties, carrying out site visits, sourcing materials for our customers as well.
There have been many changes to the building industry landscape in the past few years since COVID-19 and it’s exciting to see our operation going back to a bit more normalcy without having the wear facemasks anymore, but we have newer challenges in our industry such as delayed stock deliveries due to staffing shortages.
Steve has been with the Easylift team for over 6 years and is our Senior Technician in our automatic gates department.
Bringing with him a plethora of experience within the building industry, such as being a renderer by trade, working in confined spaces and an Auto Electrician background. Steve loves working with our range of customers and our installers, he offers excellent customer service and education with all of our products.
Leanne joined the Easylift team bringing with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in accounting and customer service. Previously working in the Cairns fencing sector, Leanne understands the importance of the Easylift product range to our customers and the added security benefits each brings for the residential, commercial and industrial sectors.
As the Receptionist at the Cairns Easylift office, Leanne can help you book a service of your existing garage or automatic gate and assist with new garage door remotes. If you have a faulty garage door, we advise all our customers to bring your remotes into us for testing, as it’s a lot easier starting with the remote than the door itself.
Michelle started with Easylift in 2024 as our receptionist and is often the first point of contact when you call our Townsville office. Michelle prepares job sheets for upcoming servicing and maintenance of garage doors and gates, as well as receiving of our stock.
Whenever one of our Representatives visit your property, Michelle will prepare documentation for onsite measure and quote appointments.
Ensuring the upmost integrity of our customers private details in our system. Michelle is happy to resolve questions to customers over the phone or walk-ins, mostly trouble shooting remotes and many other functional issues which may occur for our technicians to attend.
